From Vegas, they were on their way to Honolulu for a week, then back to San Francisco for a few days, then home to England. When we arrived at the airport, I remembered my free cab ride with that other couple, and I decided it was my turn to cover the ride. The only thing was luckily I followed Neon Boneyard on twitter Knew they were closing early due to private tour at 3pm. Bars are natural meeting spots. I realized that despite my lifelong introversion, I actually enjoy meeting new people when I know ahead of time that we have something in common—like Vegas!

There are still Vegas forums out there look in the blog links in the right sidebar of my website to find some. Twitter is another great way to meet people. I have a Twitter account specifically for Vegas where I only follow people who live in Las Vegas, Vegas businesses, and other Vegas fans. As you can see, it pays to be a repeat visitor. But you can meet people spontaneously, too. Sometimes, all you need is a friendly face to chat with for a little while.

The key to meeting people is that you have to be open to it. Ask another tourist to take your photo for you in front of one of the landmarks and offer to do the same for them. Maybe take the airport shuttle instead of a cab to and from the airport. Public transportation is a great way to mingle with others.

On my October trip, I happened to have the opportunity to share two cabs with two very memorable couples. The first happened after my tour at the Neon Boneyard Museum. When this couple and I learned we were all headed to Fremont Street, we decided to share a cab. Traffic was bad, because a car show was letting out at the Cashman Center, but on the bright side, we had fun oohing and ahhing over all the classic cars driving down the street. She was having a blast seeing all the changes, and he was having a blast showing them to her.

When we got out of the cab at the Golden Nugget, the boyfriend refused to let me pay for it. On my last day in town, I was waiting in a long cab line at the Luxor for a cab to the airport.

During the ride, I learned that Tony and Emily were newlyweds on their honeymoon. From Vegas, they were on their way to Honolulu for a week, then back to San Francisco for a few days, then home to England. I asked them what they enjoyed in Vegas during their trip and offered a few tips for their time in Honolulu which is another favorite destination of mine.

When we arrived at the airport, I remembered my free cab ride with that other couple, and I decided it was my turn to cover the ride. So maybe buy a cup of coffee for the person in line in front of you at Starbucks or offer half of a two-for-one discount coupon to someone behind you in a buffet line. My friend Jason swears by table games, too, Mike, for meeting people. Me, on the other hand, I really have to be tactical to figure out when to squeeze in my meetups, because I schedule so much during my trips.

Of course, I was in the last generation to grow up without the Internet, so that may make a difference in my attitude. My very first trip to Vegas came about because of meeting people on a blog. We were all regular commenters and over time realized that we all had similar interests.

Mainly, drinking and sarcasm. The meetup proved so successful that the entire group ended up spending the entire four days together and planning a bigger and better one each year since. Was hoping you could answer a quick question for me though, even if it is a little off-topic. Everyone says book ahead of time, however is this something I should be doing now, or can it wait till I arrive?

For example, call Monday from my hotel to set up a tour for later in the week?
